Proposed Spearfish Canyon State Park

This map depicts the footprint and proposed boundary for the Proposed Spearfish Canyon State Park. The map shows the current GFP property, private property and the US Forest Service property proposed in the land transfer. This map also shows the variety of canyon features and the existing and proposed trails, that would allow for greater connectivity in the canyon.

Bismarck Lake Transfer Area

This map shows the US Forest Service land that is proposed for incorporation into the adjoining Custer State Park. The map shows the current access to Bismarck Lake through Custer State Park, which sometimes causes confusion for visitors to both the Forest Service and State Park lands. Camp Bob Marshall, also accessed through both Custer State Park and Forest Service property.

Spearfish Falls Area Development

This map shows the existing and proposed improvements planned within the current GFP property. The improved Spearfish Falls Trail, the new trial bridge and the upper and lower Falls observation platforms will make the phenomenal Falls more accessible, while protecting the Falls from being over loved. This enlarged view also shows the opportunity to provide increased connectivity between the Savoy, Roughlock and Spearfish Falls areas.

Land Exchange Maps

The maps below show 1) the School and Public Lands (SPL) properties proposed for sale to GFP to then be exchanged with the U.S. Forest Service for land in Spearfish/Little Spearfish Canyon and Bismarck Lake areas; and 2) the current GFP land proposed to be exchanged with the U.S. Forest Service for land in Spearfish/Little Spearfish Canyon and Bismarck Lake areas.

Pennington SPL

The map below shows the two 640-acre sections of School and Public Lands (SPL)  property, located in Pennington County, proposed for sale to GFP and then exchanged with the U.S.Forest Service for land in the Spearfish/Little Spearfish Canyon and Bismarck Lake areas. As you can see on the map, these sections of SPL property are completely surrounded and land locked by the Buffalo Gap National Grassland.

Lyman SPL

The map below shows the 640-acre section of School and Public Lands (SPL)  property, located in Lyman County, proposed for sale to GFP and then exchanged with the U.S. Forest Service for land in the Spearfish/Little Spearfish Canyon and Bismarck Lake areas. As you can see on the map, this section of SPL property is boarder on three sides by the Fort Pierre National Grassland.

Lawrence GFP

The map below shows the 34 acres of GFP property in Lawrence County proposed for exchange with the U.S. Forest Service for land in the Spearfish/Little Spearfish Canyon and Bismarck Lake areas. As you can see on the map, this GFP property is boarder on two sides by the Black Hills National Forest.
